Synopsis.

Western Ukraine, district of Galicia, spring of 1943. Hit squads of Ukrainian Insurgent Army ( UPA ) carry out total "depolonization" – physical extermination of the Polish population of the region.
A group of Russian officers of the Abwehr arrive in Lemberg ( Lvov ) to inspect Cossack units of General Krasnov redeployed to the Western Ukraine from Yugoslavia to fight with red partisans.
Helen Volkova, a Russian singer, a star of a Parisian cabaret, daughter of the general of the Russian All-Military Union ( ROVS ) Anton Volkov, arrives in the city on invitation of administration of the German officers' club.
Head of the local UPA branch, Shukhrai, meets with one of the leaders of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists ( OUN ), Professor, who shows his concern in connection with appearance of photographs of the massacre of the ethnic Poles in the British press. Shukhrai persuades the Professor that expansion of the "living space" for Ukrainians is the primary goal of the organization under the conditions of occupation.
